In Fairbanks on December 14 Judge Overfield ruled in the Durand vs Manley case. The court sustained Manley and Boone on the Durand fraction of 4 on Cleary and ordered the court funds turned over to Manley after mining expenses of about 8500 were deducted. Durand, backed by Barnette, had staked the fraction from 4-bench. Manley, Witte, Meyer, Ben Boone, and D T Boone claimed the ground. Witte and Meyer had withdrawn after an initial trial, and Durand had worked with Tony Zuber and Walter Hunter, who are now deceased, and had taken out the gold.

A blaze starting from a defective flue in the Central saloon swept through Fairbanks downtown at 2 am, destroying seven businesses and causing losses above $20,000. Firefighters faced freezing conditions with six hose lines, burning one and two story frame structures, including Empire restaurant and several shops. Most losses hit the Fraction saloon and Imperial cigar store. insurance was light and several owners faced heavy damage.

Human sacrifices to King Frost reported on trail tragedy
Prospectors John Kuschel and Alfred Sundquist found a frozen unidentified man along the trail four miles from Moose Creek and notified Commissioner Maltby and Deputy Marshal Donovan. The second such death in two weeks, following George Howard who froze to death between Ophir and Diskaket on December 16. Howard, 55, was a Fortymile veteran and printer by trade who had mined in Alaska since 1886.

Fairbanks December 14 Frank Lindquist layman on a boiler dome was killed instantly when the boiler exploded in the boiler house. The blast hurled his body about two hundred yards and wrecked the boiler end. One arm was torn from the body. Investigators had little information on Lindquist or his family. He had been in the dome area for some time.
