Myers Leave for Koyukuk Country Steamer Journey

The Jose M. built by Mr and Mrs Myers leaves for the Koyukuk river country for an extended trip. The vessel will be dismantled at the headwaters with the boiler used for prospecting. Cotton Declared Contraband of War by Allies Proclamation

A proclamation declaring cotton contraband of war has been issued by the allies. French papers show divergent comment on the order. Washington reports say the effective date has not been announced. Also, Chicago bondholders’ suit against railway vendors for Alaska Northern sale to the government was dismissed by agreement, with substantial sums paid.

White Star Arabic Sunk Off Fastnet with No Losses Reported

The White Star steamship Arabic was torpedoed near Fastnet, five miles off the Irish coast, and sank in eleven minutes. Survivors, including 26 Americans, arrived at Queenstown with all passengers and crew accounted for except eight. two Americans possibly lost.
