In a House committee on territories hearing Delegate Wickersham said Governor Clark is too pessimistic about Alaska Secretary Fisher urged Congress to move on the Alaska railroad proposal.
A writ review for C. D. Hillman, a Seattle real estate man convicted of fraud, is refused. He will serve two years at McNeil's Island. Attorneys argued private books used as evidence before the grand jury, but the court rejected the challenge.
The Iditarod Masonic Club proposes a banquet Sunday April 1. Otter Masonic Club members and all entered apprentices and fellowcrafts are invited. Visiting members of the craft will attend. A committee led by Henry Weir Andrew Nerland and Sam Bayles will arrange the details. wives and sweethearts expected to attend. event seen as highly enjoyable.

In Valdez on April 2 delegates to the Democratic convention faced a divided assembly as Harrais supporters blocked a roll vote to name a temporary chair, demanded committee referrals, and formed a separate group. Cheney opposed them, chaos followed, and the marshal was called. Harrais backers nominated Harrais for delegate and O'Connor and Frame for local leadership, while a rival regular faction met in another hall naming Jennings as delegate with a platform criticizing the Republican administration and pushing reforms. Millionaire mining man Tom Aitken of Iditarod Alaska married Beryl Boughton daughter of a Chicago banker. The couple, described as writer and artist of note, plan to go North in June.
St Louis reports large Mississippi valley flooding with heavy losses. Washington notes Secretary Fisher travels to Honolulu to probe charges against Hawaii Governor Frear. Indianapolis mentions 400000 coal miners on strike. Washington also lists Severin J Bakke nominated for Nome postmaster. London reports leaders declare the coal strike off.
San Francisco report says Frankie Burns defeated Johnny Frayne by knockout in the ninth round. In Memphis Joz Mandot won a decision over Owen Moran in eight rounds.
Nome mayor William A. Gilmore nominated as delegate to Congress by Republican territorial convention. Delegates to national convention chosen with Taft favored. division support predicted. Alaska delegate James Wickersham criticizes Taft policy. local Republicans unite behind Gilmore, Democrats split on Harrais and Jennings.
Last Wednesday night the old council concluded its term after approving pending bills and claims. Fire Chief McGovern reported departmental work while City Clerk O Farrell presented financials. J R McGovern’s resignation was tabled. Barnes praised citizens as the new board convened with Auten as temporary chair and Barnes elected permanent chair.
In Fairbanks the Citizens' ticket wins six council seats as Pretzel faction loses ground. Nome reports Mayor Gilmore and the old council victorious with 942 votes. Cordova and Valdez also elect Citizens or incumbents. Registration in Fairbanks slated to hit record levels with heavy voter turnout expected.
After the adjournment of the Republican territorial convention a nonpartisan gathering met and passed resolutions demanding open coal fields, a government railroad, a million dollar road fund, an amendment to mining laws banning staking by power of attorney, and complete self government.

Tom McMahon visits from Flat City. Deep Hole Pete, a noted mining figure, reaches Flat after leaving Seward March 15 for 15 days travel. Charley Knell and Eddie McArd arrive from Seward after 18 days. they left the interior in November and toured the coast. Be nner James departed weeks ago for Fairbanks. locals plan randings with Iditarod friends and order beef spread daily at Sundberuen’s.
After basketball games last Saturday 14 Iditarod players visited Miss Lucius Taylor on Willow Point and staged a birthday surprise. The party included games singing and refreshments and ended late with Ralph Lomen presenting a gold belt buckle as a fellowship token from fellow players.

Washington reported the death of Tennessee Senator Robert Love Taylor a Democrat long active in state politics. Elected in 1878 his term would have ended in 1913. He gained fame in 1886 by defeating his brother Alfred A Taylor for governor, earning the nickname Fiddling Taylor for his violin performances.
Charley Knell and Eddie Mc Ardle were questioned about outside Bolivia news. A Ferguson-McComac letter claiming to summarize strikes in the southern republic circulated in Seattle and San Francisco. Typewritten copies sold for 25 cents, Nome readers considered starting for Bolivia, while Capt J J Donovan was the only interior figure seen boarding in San Francisco.
In Alaska during the All-Alaska Sweepstakes local fans escorted Harry P. Sheppard to Isaacs Bros. & Co. to dress him in fine attire after his valiant 53 mile run with a dislocated shoulder. The gesture recognized his grit and the victory of the red dogs on St Patrick's day.
