The plan to merge Chicago Sinai and Temple Sholom failed as neither congregation reached the required two thirds vote. Sinai had 944 for, 627 against, 122 abstaining from 1,693 eligible. Sholom reported 828 for, 1,334 against, 655 not voting from 2,817 eligible.
The Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference board approved a plan to replace three co directors with a single executive director and three coordinators. A search committee will interview candidates while the interim period is run by the current co directors.
The Illinois Central Hospital at 5800 Stony Island Ave. has been sold to a physician led group headed by Dr. Philip L. Campagna. O H Zimmerman says the buyers offered top terms and have hospital experience to keep the South Side facility operating with high standards and preserving employee jobs.
