Funds Sought For Bigger Lab School Expansion at U Chicago
The University of Chicago seeks 2 million dollars to expand its laboratory and high school between 58th and 59th streets and Kimbark and Kenwood avenues. The plan aims to double high school enrollment and add one third more elementary pupils, part of a 32 million dollar fund drive to keep the university great. A spokesman called the expansion several years away and intended to serve the university community.

Board authorizes Drexel 50th Street school site purchase
The Board of Education approved buying the northwest corner of Drexel and 50th for an elementary school on CHA project land. It fronts Drexel 1 1/2 blocks and runs 353.75 feet west along 50th. A three story brick building and a carriage house occupy the site. Acquisition may take six to eight months with final housing of 400 to 500 students planned two years out to relieve Shakespeare and Kozminski.

City Crackdown Targets Hyde Park Slumlords Under Receivership Plan
Chicago launches a broad drive under a 1953 state law to name the city as receiver for violator buildings. At least 13 landlords with 35 properties will face receivership petitions in Circuit Court to remove profits from slum operations. Properties include 6151 59 Ellis 836 E 55th and 5340-42 Cornell.
