Hyde Park YMCA maps a year long celebration for its 75th anniversary in 1970 led by executive director Joe Field and board chairman John Crewdson. Plans include an open house week in January 1970 and monthly special events culminating in an October anniversary dinner.
Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference met with growing confidence after surviving another month. Kai Nebel announced 100 new members, promoted Sharon Jeffrey to acting director, and outlined tenant union growth with elected officers. The youth committee reported progress on non physical programs and YMCA initiatives amid financing concerns.

Congressman Abner Mikva introduces a bill to make releasing pollutants a federal offense and to set federal standards for pollution sources. The measure allows private citizens to sue, enables enforcement when local action fails, imposes penalties up to 2000 dollars a day, and grants emergency shutdown powers during inversions with wage protection.
