Kenwood Starts Tutor Program and New Music Major Plan
Kenwood High School begins a tutoring plan with University of Chicago graduate students and Kenwood Hig School 4959 Blackstone students. Fourteen tutors meet two days weekly to help with English math and French and provide enrichment. A new music major program, led by Lena McLin, will test this year with two choirs and several major classes, expanding music study beyond a minor credit.

DUR sells park sites in Northwest Hyde Park
The Department of Urban Renewal board approved the sale of two park sites in Northwest Hyde Park on Oct. 13. PK-2 covers two and a half acres on the west side of Greenwood surrounded by 54th Place, and PK-6 spans a half acre on the east side of Drexel. The total price is 102394 dollars. The Chicago Park District had voted to purchase the lots on Sept. 27 after years of vacancy. Local residents and the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference pushed for park development as part of the Urban Renewal Plan. A Northwest Committee on Recreation formed to address recreation needs, helped staff PR-6, and volunteers cleared debris and weeds through a Neighborhood Youth Corps effort. The sites will support YMCA programs for ages 8 to 12 in collaboration with Kozminski PTA and local groups.
