Hyde Park neighborhood club adds new wing dedication Sunday
The Hyde Park Neighborhood Club at 5480 Kenwood unveils a 235000 expansion with a 1 p.m. dedication and tree planting. Events run 1 to 3:30 p.m. featuring ice cream social, folk singer Ella Jenkins, a teen band, baseball game, square dancing, tours, art exhibits, and community balloon gifts. Hyde Park Kenwood elementary enrollments mostly held steady from last year with Murray School dropping to 393 from 411 after adding two special classes moved from Kozminski School. Shoesmith rose to 634 from 504 as seventh and eighth graders were moved here to house a new Kenwood ninth grade.

Enrollment Drops Prompt Emergency Action at Hyde Park Kenwood
District 14 Superintendent Curtis Melnick released official figures showing Hyde Park High enrollment at 2750 and Kenwood ninth grade at 390 with about 700 and 100 short respectively. A PTA telegram urged a state of emergency and a halt to teacher transfers, while transfers to other schools and outside the city explained much of the gap.

Renovated Fountain of Time Re-Dedication in Chicago
Mrs. Emily Taft Douglas attended Monday ceremonies in Washington Park for the restored Fountain of Time. The event honored Lorado Taft with plaques and a 14,200 dollar renovation that re water proofs the sculpture, adds lighting, landscaping, and a repaired basin. Col. Jacob Arvey presided as Fire Department band played, with city officials including Mayor Richard J. Daley in attendance.
