Independent committee weighs Outer Drive replan in Chicago
A five member committee appointed by Mayor Daley will reappraise the 53rd to 59th Street Outer Drive segment. The group, led by Jack Meltzer, will report its conclusions this week after a month study amid council funding and protests from Alderman Despres. The Hyde Park Kenwood Conference backs Jackson Park preservation and Sasaki's one way street concept for traffic flow between 53rd and 60th. Cornell Drive would run southbound from 59th with South Lake Shore Drive northbound.

The Herald lists fourteen bids for four Hyde Park Kenwood commercial renewal sites. The Department of Urban Renewal will evaluate these bids and forward staff recommendations to the Urban Renewal Board for final approval by the city and federal authorities. Staff expect recommendations within sixty days of bid closing.

Regenstein Foundation Gives $10 Million for U Chicago Library
The Joseph and Helen Regenstein Foundation of Chicago donated 10 million dollars to the University of Chicago to fund a new graduate research library on campus. The Joseph Regenstein Library will be named in honor of the late industrialist and will occupy the site of the current Stagg Field at 56th and Ellis. The project totals about 18 million dollars with the remainder from other sources as construction plans proceed.
