Infectious-like L4946 mouse leukemia reported by Chicago researcher
Dr. George B. Humphrey reports that the L4946 lymphatic leukemia in mice is caused by a tiny virus-like agent that can transfer infection through abdominal fluid. The agent, smaller than a cell, is heat sensitive and distinct from known mouse leukemia viruses. The study notes high mortality within 20 to 30 days and broader susceptibility across mouse strains. Humphrey presented the findings at the 47th annual meeting in Atlantic City.
