Candlelight procession honors Kent State Jackson State dead
Hyde Park community stages a candlelight procession and vigil at the Henry Moore sculpture on Ellis Ave between 56th and 57th Streets to commemorate Kent State and Jackson State students and Indochina War dead. Processions start at Harper Court Kenwood High School and Coop Shopping Center at 8 30 p m with a University of Chicago group joining to the Moore sculpture for a 9 p m commemoration led by Rev Jack Mendelsohn.

Social workers from 23 countries stay with Hyde Park hosts
Social workers and youth leaders from 23 countries live with area host families through May 13 as part of a four month work study by the Chicago International Program for Youth Leaders and Social Workers. Thirty of 180 national participants stay in Chicago with Hyde Park hosts from Mozambique Liberia Kenya Nigeria Guyana Jamaica Surinam Uganda Denmark Germany and France. They attend seminars at University of Chicago on minority problems economic issues ethnic relations politics and urban trends as their U S visit ends in August. Next week the Herald will interview a visiting social worker and a host family.

District 14 Proposes Full Music Specialist Plan for Grades 5-8
The Joint PTA Orchestra committee urges 13 new itinerant music teachers and removal of a non teaching music consultant to provide free regular cumulative music education across 13 elementary schools. Two plans, Chorus and Classroom Music, require full or half time teachers at Hyde Park Kenwood and Woodlawn, to ensure yearly progressive music instruction from 5th through 8th grade.

Roosevelt University students from Bryson help residents of the Bryson hotel at a bake sale and bazaar near 52nd and Blackstone. Local businesses donated goods. the sale raised over $180 to support rehabilitation versus demolition of the Bryson hotel at 49th and Lake Park. Ruth Cason heads the Bryson Tenant union.
