Lake Village Battle Ends as Judge Rules for Developers
Federal Judge Richard McClaren refused to enjoin Lake Village Associates from completing a high rise at 47th and Dorchester. The Southwest Chicago Commission and Hyde Park residents challenged HUD financing under section 236, arguing it promotes segregation. The court dismissed Lake Village from the suit but left a count against the federal government intact, denying injunctive relief and signaling possible action only against HUD for administration of federal housing programs.
