Hyde Park Faces Loss of Federal Funds Under Nixon Budget

At a public hearing in Chicago’s Hyde Park Kenwood area witnesses warned that Nixon budget cuts threaten federal aid for health care and housing. They cited a $43 000 1973 grant for health planning and a moratorium on subsidized housing programs delaying rehabilitation and private rehab projects.

Coffeehouse robbed again instruments recovered

Musical equipment belonging to bands playing at a Friday night teen coffeehouse at United Church of Hyde Park was recovered the same day by police. A 24 year old suspect, linked to prior similar thefts, held the gear at his home after being questioned. The break in occurred between 6 and 8 am, with burglars prying doors and stealing fuses and tools to reach the equipment storage room.

Fourth ward alderman Holman dies at 69 in Chicago

Alderman Claude W. Holman long a leading black political figure and ally of Mayor Daley died last Friday morning at his apartment from a heart attack. He was 69 and had planned to run for re election in 1975. A city council decision on a possible special election in the 4th Ward will be made by the council.
