Dignitaries Break Ground For Twin Apartment Towers
Excavation has begun on South Side's largest apartment building at 4800 South Shore with 27 stories and 728 units. The project, at the Chicago Beach edge near South Outer Drive, will feature one to three bedroom layouts, all electric kitchens, and two baths in larger units. Funding comes from an FHA loan of 12.6 million from Aetna Life Insurance, with Loewenberg and Loewenberg as architects and Snow and Walters plus Gust K Newberg Construction Co. as builders. Occupancy targeted for fall 1963 after about 14 months of construction.
