Primary petitions filed in Springfield for April 12

In Springfield last week secretary of state began accepting nominating petitions for the April 12 primary. U S Sen Paul H Douglas seeks re election and State Treasurer Joseph D Lohman runs for governor. Douglas is unopposed. Lohman faces Mitchell and Kerner. Local races include state representative 23rd district and 4th ward committeeman, plus delegate to the summer national nominating convention. Democratic incumbent Abner J Mikva leads Hyde Park Kenwood Woodlawn South Shore district with others awaiting renomination.

Local Ward Races See Incumbents File for Re nomination

Lifesaving instructor 5545 Kenwood and Nathan J. Kinnally 7234 Paxton filed for renomination. Three of four ward committeemen in the 4th and 5th wards filed petitions to run again. Holman Hodes and Korshak hold key seats. Korshak not up this year. Mikva and Pollak seek national convention delegates in the 2nd district with party divisions over Hodes. Municipal court judge Eisendrath seeks reelection.

NLRB declines jurisdiction over Chicago hospital unions

The National Labor Relations Board dismissed union petitions for representation elections among nonprofessional staff at 12 Chicago hospitals including the Home for Incurables and Osteopathic Hospital. The board said the Taft Hartley act covers nonprofit institutions and will not extend jurisdiction to privately operated hospitals outside DC. Union leaders condemned the move while calling for state labor legislation.

Federation to elect officers in Fifth Ward

The Fifth Ward Democratic Federation holds its second annual meeting at 8 30 tonight in the First Unitarian church on 57th and Woodlawn. Mrs Jeanne Orlikoff chairs the local federation and presides. The agenda covers officer elections a platform revision of the constitution and admission of the Cornell Avenue Democratic Club formed since the first meeting. Paul Redlich and Mel Margolies announce candidacies for chair and vice chair respectively.

Block steerers state meeting in Hyde Park Kenwood

The Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference steering committee will meet tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the First Unitarian Church at 1174 E. 57th. Walt Ducey of 5205 Kenwood is committee chairman, with chairmen from all Hyde Park-Kenwood block groups.
