In the 2nd Congressional District Democratic primary incumbent Barratt O Hara 83 wins an AFL-CIO COPE endorsement. Challenger Abner J Mikva 40 receives support from UAW Amalgamated Clothing Workers and AFSCME with added backing from AFL-CIO leaders. Local UAW officials also report Mikva backing from the Chicago Area Citizenship Council. O Hara plans a campaign HQ opening in the district.

Urban renewal bids set for Hyde Park Kenwood sites
The Department of Urban Renewal recommended sales of several commercial sites in Hyde Park Kenwood. Samuel A. Bell bid $3.35 for site C-9 at 52nd and Harper, the only qualified bid. Other bids were rejected for being non compliant or including a parking garage. DUR also paused C-1 sale pending Chicago school board location clarifications for a new high school. Cottage Park Development Corp. won C-? on 53rd Cottage Grove with a shopping center plan, while Constructors Collaborative, Inc. secured C-8 at 53rd Blackstone Harper for a two story building with shops and offices. A survey budget was approved to study urban renewal effects on property assessments and tax collections.
