Jobs for Teens program to survive funding cut

Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference vows to maintain the Teens for Jobs program despite a 1S percent OEO cut. The budget, about $47,000, will trim salaries and overhead while the conference increases its cash and in kind contribution to slightly over 20 percent.

Non-candidate Newhouse launches south district non campaign

Senator Richard Newhouse, a Democratic non candidate for Congress, urged southern Second District voters against a school busing plan while promoting quality education. He denied backing the bus plan, called it racist, and suggested a core housing and education issue. Other non candidates include Leon Despres, Abner Mikva, Robert Mann, and Marshall Korshak as party leaders weigh the field. The group plans to continue their non campaign as party organizers near a decision.

Smith Seeks Re-Election to House From 24th District

Calvin L. Smith announces campaign for re election to the state legislature. He will kick off tonight February 14 at Michael Jordan's home 5000 Cornell. Smith is one of three 24th District representatives. two Democrats backed by the regular organization and one Republican. Smith is a Democrat ally of Fourth Ward Alderman Claude Holman. Robert E Mann lives at 5639 Harper. Noble W. Lee is the Republican candidate at 5541 Woodlawn. Smith was first elected as a blue ribbon candidate in 1964 and re elected in 1966.

Air Pollution Hearing Schedules Friday City Hall

Local residents are urged to attend the City Council hearings on proposed amendments to air pollution ordinances this Friday February 16 at 10 30 a m in City Hall Representatives from the conference committee on air pollution and the Hyde Park Kenwood cleaner air committee will testify at the hearings.
