Desk Sgt. Jerry Mannering joins a Santa visit at the station house on 29th and Prairie for a holiday party. Police, merchants, and citizens donated gifts to over 500 children, with Neighborhood Relations Pendleton also pictured.
Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference votes to back a Lake Shore Drive rehabilitation plan while urging an environmental impact study and a Section 4(1) statement before construction. IDOT has said an EIS is not federally required, risk of delays remains.
Marvin Bohannon who has served as Herald general manager for nine years re signs effective January 1 1978. John Norman marketing director of the Southtown Economist will take over as new Herald manager. Norman previously led the South End Reporter and the South End Review. Bohannon also presides over the Hyde Park Business and Professional Association with plans for the future described as indefinite.
Florence Goold reports a rift among independents as the 24th District Independent Voters of Illinois backed Carol Moseley Braun for the state legislative seat. the 47-33 IVI committee vote followed by potential IVI board approval amid accusations of packing by Michael Shakman and Braun supporters.
An early deadline is in effect for the next issue. Advertising and editorial copy must be at the Herald office by Thursday, December 29 at noon.
