Crime Figures Show 16 Percent Drop in Hyde Park

Crime statistics for Hyde Park's 6th district police show a 16.3 percent decrease in offenses for January to November 1955 compared with 1954. Since Captain Graney’s September 1955 assignment, SeptemberNovember 1955 data reveal declines including 19.2 percent total offenses, with robbery down 20 percent, burglary 22 percent, purse snatchings 14 percent, and auto larceny 46 percent.

Park District Rejects 6¢ Th Road Stoplight at 57th Drive

The Park District refused to install a traffic light at 57th Drive and Lake Shore Drive, citing heavy volumes and the need for a police officer to direct traffic. A detour via 47th Street is suggested as a quicker alternative, with ongoing monitoring for changes.

Santa Letter Contest Won By Andrea Meier

Andrea Meier age six from Hyde Park won the Hyde Park Herald Santa Letter contest. She lives at 5435 Dorchester with her family and received a $25 U S Savings bond. Andrea, a first grader at Philip Murray, wrote Santa asking for teddy bears a dog a training wheel bike and left cookies milk and carrots for the reindeer. Her father Richard Meier is an assistant professor of planning at the University of Chicago.
