Hyde Park Groups Expand Supervised Recreation for Youth
Hyde Park groups led by the Community Conference and Hyde Park Neighborhood Club mobilize funds and volunteers to run summer recreation for children aged 7 to 14. Two full time workers operate in the area using vacant lots between 55th and 59th streets. A Street Jamboree on August 4 raised funds for ongoing programs. Community effort aims to sustain a year round full time worker and expand to storefronts basements and volunteer led activities including volleyball and basketball facilities behind a tot lot near 5300.
