Cornell Village condominiums recommended for HR2 site
The DUR staff recommends Cornell Village Associates for the HR2 parcel on Cor nell Avenue between 53rd and 51st streets. The $5.08 per square foot bid from about 80,000 square feet was the highest among seven bidders. The plan includes 144 units in a 14 story tower plus 11 townhouses and four studios with prices from 25,500 to 45,000, praised for architectural quality and mix of unit types. The decision rests with the Urban Renewal Board at its September 7 meeting.

The lakefront subcommittee of the Chicago Plan Commission heard groups urge adoption of the Johnson Johnson and Roy Jackson Park plan on Aug 18. Endorsements came from Hyde Park Kenwood groups and others while some questioned practicality, costs, and effects on golf and roads. The plan was sent back to the consultants for revisions and a new report to the Plan Commission with no date set.

The roof is removed and the boiler visible through the south wall at Hyde Park High School on Stony Island is being dismantled. The project begins a full rehabilitation replacing the coal fired steam system with a modern gas and oil fired heating system to save space and add classroom capacity.
