Hyde Park Robbery Gang Members Held for Grand Jury
Billy Leavell and Walter Cobb, both implicated in a southside robbery spree, were held to the grand jury by Judge George B. Weiss. Bonds set at $2000 each. Detectives say the Rock and Roll gang totaled about $5000 from five robberies in the last three months. They admitted spending loot in jazz joints listening to rock and roll.

A three year old girl, Bertha Hinojosa, fell from a first floor rear porch at 5214 Kimbark on August 11. The guard rail failure followed months of tenant complaints to Shortall Realty about rear landing repairs. Nearby, 13 year old John Luna died July 17 after a 25 foot fall from a rear landing between floors two and three at 5337 Kimbark. coroner ruled accidental. Dr. Arul Hinojosa, mother of the girl, is engaged in medical research at Billings Hospital and may seek no legal action.

City Promises Brighter Light For North Hyde Park

Destruction of Stagg Field Begins at University of Chicago
Demolition of Stagg Field’s west stand started on Thursday marking the site of the first self sustaining nuclear chain reaction on December 2, 1942. The work coincides with Amos Alonzo Stagg’s 95th birthday. a commemorative plaque is removed and will be replaced after the wrecking to tennis courts while the north stand of 17,000 seats remains.
