Barratt O'Hara Dies After Prolonged Illness in D C
Barratt O'Hara, 87, longtime Illinois politician and former U S congressman, died early this week in Georgetown University Hospital Washington D C after a long illness. Born 1882 he served in the House from 1948 50 and 1954 66. He was the first to sponsor a Negro for the Naval Academy and helped found the National Science Foundation among many roles. He is expected to be buried in Chicago beside his wife and one child.
