The Kenwood vaccine station ran three hours daily last week with 17 volunteer doctors 14 nurses and over 100 volunteers. A court ordered the Castle tenement at 48th and Kenwood closed until it meets city standards with occupants relocated.
The South East Chicago commission requests 30 of 500 new officers for the Hyde Park area. They note the 6th district has fallen to 127 active officers after starting the year with 192, citing transfers deaths and sick leaves. The letter to Police Commissioner O Connell underlines district crime share of 3.49% first quarter and 7% second quarter with 3.38% of city police strength.
The council will be chaired by realtor David Sutton and assist the Community Conservation Board in urban renewal. Three year terms go to Howard Goodman Maurice Gleason Arthur Schoenstadt and David Sutton. Two year terms go to Lloyd Hall Louis Mann Charles Schwartz and Hubert Will. One year terms go to James Green Edwin Rothschild and Gustavus Swift Jr.
East Hyde Park residents heard traffic expert proposals for a new outer drive plan linking Jackson Park with a south Stony Island route. A 57th street cloverleaf drew opposition as destructive while a 61st street intersection was deemed sound. The group urged relocation of recreational facilities and opened the plan for study. Lenox Lohr noted 200000 children cross at 57th street annually.
Byerrum R. O. Byerrum of University National Bank was elected vice president of the District Illinois Bankers Association. He moved to Chicago from Iowa in 1950 and holds multiple posts including executive VP of First Trust and Savings Bank Davenport and treasurer roles with SECC. He resides at 5755 Kenwood.
