Hyde Parker Exhibit At Pioneer V Space Satellite
Radiation equipment built by Hyde Parker will be displayed tomorrow inside the Pioneer V satellite at the Museum of Science and Industry. Nancy Wood and the University of Chicago designed a radiation counter for the satellite. Pioneer V is a 94.8 pound probe now in a Venus proximity orbit and will reach over 46 million miles from its launch site with Earth return expected late in 1965. The mission marked the farthest control of an instrumented vehicle by humans and provided new data on interplanetary magnetic fields and space radiation.
