Inmate Dies by Hanging at Wisconsin State Penitentiary
Sheriff Harold Hammer investigated a fatal self harm at Waupun as August Schrer a 45 year old inmate from Waukesha died by hanging in his cell. He was serving a one to ten year assault morale sentence and faced possible further prosecution after his term. A note to his ex wife indicated despondency and a wish to protect his family. He was described as well educated and a former high school instructor.
