Belle Fourche irrigation project opens vast valley to growth

A government driven irrigation plan north of the Black Hills aims to convert 90 000 acres of prairie into a garden. Under the reclamation act 2 500 000 dollars funds dams reservoirs and ditches in the Belle Fourche valley led by engineer A mond F Walters who faced landowner assent challenges and built a large dam four miles below Belle Fourche with a reservoir six and a half miles distant.
