A year after fleeing across Beadle and Hand counties near the state fair in Huron the alleged killer surrendered to authorities. The suspect turned himself in at a local sheriff’s office outlining intent to face charges. Police described the case as ongoing with further proceedings expected.
Elmer Young surrendered to Hand county authorities and demanded an immediate hearing. The justice dismissed the case due to lack of witnesses and evidence, freeing Young after a long search and prior escape. He planned to surrender at Sioux Falls, but disappeared after arriving in Huron. Younger brother John remains under indictment for Todd’s murder.
The State's Show, previously held since the territorial era, is staged in Huron marking the first exhibition in the city under contemporary arrangements. The event showcases regional talents and reflects long standing agricultural display traditions.
The South Dakota State Fair returns to Huron with larger, newer buildings under construction. The fair opens Monday September 11 and closes Friday the 15th, with improved train service and central location expected to boost attendance to record levels. The State Fair Board is preparing for the annual meeting as carpenters and laborers work to complete the grounds.
Huron College plans a larger opening enrollment for 1905 06 with about 300 students expected in the first week and near 400 by year end. The faculty may add two professors and rooms in dormitories are being prepared.
