The Huntley Village Board meets September 4 to hear an ordinance empowering the McHenry County Health Department to inspect eating establishments taverns grocery stores and other food sellers. Trustees discuss Route 47 drainage and call in engineers after heavy rains cause flooding.
School report shows 796 students enrolled, up 8 from last year. K-8 totals 598, up seven, with 14 more girls than boys. Jr high 189 in grades 6-8. High school 198, boys exceed girls by 23. Kindergarten down to 54 from 74. 1969 showed K-54 to 8-55 totals 598 and 198.
Union Special Machine Company awarded Huntley High School a walnut scholarship trophy on Sept 5 1969. Superintendent Leroy Marks received it from W G Burmeister Employment Manager. Five graduates won monetary scholarships and new small trophies this year.
The Boy Scouts announce a community paper drive set for October 11. Volunteers are invited to bring recyclable paper to designated collection points across town. Moral support and logistical help encouraged from local groups.
The Huntley Board of Education met on Monday September 8 with President Jirik and Superintendent Marks present. Insurance head Mr. Richard Jacobs of W W Rice Co explained current coverage and noted rates have not risen since 1964. He discussed feasibility of a broker board, Lloyds withdrawal, and Huntley’s fire protection rating of seven on a ten scale.
William Buck announces the sale of the Village Store to James Nolan of Elgin Illinois. Nolan, a McKesson Robbins sales representative for 30 years, will run the store and continue his company duties with Lois Nolan as general manager. The Nolans have six children and plan to expand stock for the local community.
The Huntley Park Board met August 27 1969 at 8 00 PM with Commissioners Diecke Picke Parisek Tessendorf and Engineer Schefiow present. Minutes and treasurer reports were approved and a transfer to a 5 percent Golden Passbook Savings account was authorized after September 15.
Alvin Niemeyer of Coyne Station Road Huntley reports his 9 year old female black and white terrier Trixie stolen after a dark blue Chevrolet fled his yard at 10 am Friday September 5. He chased but the car vanished leaving a color TV also missing.
