Huntley Junior Chamber of Commerce partners with Borhart Scheischer Stump Removal to remove dead cemetery stumps. Work proceeds on consecutive Saturdays starting last week and continues until all stumps are eliminated.
On the first full day 689 students enrolled with three kindergarten and three first grade classes. Administrators cite need for a new second grade class as space runs tight. One fourth grade class moved to the high school wing near the cafeteria to free elementary space.
The United Church of Christ Congregational marks its 100th church building anniversary with plans for a celebration. A week of September 1952 activities honored the founders who built the sanctuary through sacrifice. The piece recalls baptisms marriages and times of sorrow in the house of God.
A special meeting of the Grafton Township Board of Auditors is set for Thursday at 8 00 P M at the township garage to approve or disapprove the annual tax levy The session arises after a group from outside Huntley questioned the board s legal right to vote on the Road and Bridge Fund Levy and demanded public voting The Tuesday meeting was adjourned by Supervisor Mackeben to investigate the spectators claims and loyalty of a vote proposed by a Huntley man CONTINUED ON PAGE FIVE
The Huntley Sons of the American Legion and Junior Legion Auxiliary held a joint installation on Saturday August 29 with Elsie Jordi as installing officer for the Auxiliary and Donald Enstrom as installing officer for the Sons. New Auxiliary officers included Betty Jurs as Chairman Debbie Eckman 1st Vice Chairman Gloria Koch Secretary Linda Koch Treasurer Joan Lamz Historian Marilyn Hammond Chaplain and Connie Koch Sgt of Arms. Sons officers were Randy Zimmerman Commander Bruce Enstrom 1st Vice Commander Harold Shott 2nd Vice Commander James Fox Adjutant Gry Schultz Finance Officer.
In a Saturday morning ceremony August 29 in front of the American Legion Home Huntley Post the Illinois flag was raised beneath the U S flag. The flag donated in memory of Ewald Tessen dorf by his widow Lima and family members was presented by junior auxiliary groups and raised by Legion Commander Donald Enstrom with Hedy Leonard and Richard Staab assisting.
