The Huntley Board of Education faces a projected $40,000 overdraft for 68 69 and a December 14 tax referendum due to rising enrollment from 789 students now, with teacher salaries being the largest expense. Enrollment grew from 265 in 1939 to 789 today, with staff up 38 percent. future needs include more classrooms and program upgrades.
Huntley High School hosts a public gym show on Thursday November 21 at 8 00 p m. The event features girls P E routines including round dances square dances modern jazz routines jump rope exercises and a trampoline display as well as a parade of Wooden Soldiers ball gymnastics and pyramid building under gym teacher Mrs Birchfield.
The PTA hosts a Saturday basketball doubleheader in the school gym at 7 30 p m on November 8. Huntley Hurricanes face Huntley Tornadoes in the first game and Marengo Oilers meet the school faculty in the second. Proceeds fund new stage curtains with tickets at Bucks Pharmacy Don s Supervalu or at the door for 1 00.
The Huntley Consolidated School Board met November 13 with most members present. They approved funding for the December 14 educational fund ballot, naming polling place at the village hall and listing election judges. Birchfield reported district property value and county splits. a motion to proceed passed. The December meeting date was moved to December 23 for Christmas.
The Official Caravan of the Department of Illinois American Legion visited Huntley Post. Commander Robert Schultz and numerous officers including Joe Leoni Earl Peacock Jon M Mold Ralph Coop Bobby Tierney Thomas Myer Tony Fabian Barbara OConnell John Skalany Don Enstrom Ty Behrens Don Brockragge were welcomed. The group breakfasted at Union Legion Post after certifying memberships and offering thanks.
A newly formed Huntley School organization named H E A is sanctioned by the Illinois Education Association. It aims to create a local representative body to work with state and national groups for children, teachers, and professional ethics. Committees listed include Teachers Welfare and Public Relations with named members.
The Huntley Park Board met November 14 at the village hall with Commissioners Deicke Piske Wasserstrass Tessendorf and engineer Scheflow and Attorney Cowlin present. Riley was absent. Minutes from October 17 were approved. Treasurer reported October 1 balance 4669.84. bills 1435.85. deposits 4489.00. November 1 balance 7722.99. Piske attended briefly. Tessendorf named Chairman Pro-Tem and introduced Mr William Bein as a new member.
The Board of Education will hold the November 25 meeting at 7 30 PM and the December meeting on a Monday instead of the previously scheduled Wednesdays.
Huntley Fire Department responded to three calls this week. A false alarm occurred at Clanyard Farms on Thursday. A Sunday fire at the O Grady farm south of town destroyed a shed and gas tank with about $600 damage. The Tuesday call involved an automatic alarm incident at Dean Milk Company.
Athletic Director Glen Delaney announced a rescheduled grade school game for St Thomas Moore. The contest moved from Wednesday November 27 to Monday November 25 with a 6 30 start time.
Notice that Browney Troop 220 will meet on Tuesday December 8 at 3 30 p m due to no school on Monday December 2.
Faye Marlowe was crowned Queen of the Little International at the University of Illinois Livestock Showmanship contest sponsored by the Dairy Production Club and Hoof and Horn club. Campaign team members Allan Barhart and Chuck Ruth aided her bid with support from Huntley.
