The Huntley American Legion Post No. 673 invites all to a Feather Party on Saturday November 6 at 8 p.m. at the Legion Home. The Auxiliary bazaar runs same time with a bake sale, other items, door prizes, and free lunch.
The Huntley School Board met with all members present on Wednesday October 30 in the board room. A motion to establish a library impress fund of 50 was approved 7 to 0 to let Librarian Bennet buy newspapers pamphlets magazines folders and related items and provide small cash. A subsequent motion to employ Marvin Birchfield as financial consultant was approved to proceed with continued on Page Three.
Police Chief Richard Nelson says Halloween in Huntley saw eggs and tomatoes thrown at cars, pumpkins and toilet paper on streets. One youth was taken to the station for egg throwing but released after cleanup. Firecrackers exploded, several talkings occurred the next day, with no arrests.
The District 158 board voted to ask voters for a 40 cent tax increase to support the educational fund. The move aims to cover rising enrollment from 559 students in 1961-62 to 789 this year and higher costs for teachers, books, supplies, and staff.
Pictured pages show scenes from the Music Booster's second annual auction held in November at Huntley High School. The group sold donated items including junked musical instruments to raise money for the school music department. A spokesman called the event very successful. A full earnings report will appear next week. The boosters thank contributors and purchasers for supporting the sale.
Over 100 upper grade and junior high students attended the Halloween Sock Hop in the Social Hall last Friday November 1 hosted by the Junior P F and the Chapel Choir. Carl Hill called square dances as adults supervised the event.
District 158 announces no school on November 11 to observe the legal holiday Veterans Day. Schools will be dismissed for the observance.
The PTA sponsors two games on Saturday November 23 at 7 30 PM in the school gym to raise funds for stage curtains. Huntley Hurricanes face Huntley Tornadoes in game one. Marengo Oilers battle the school faculty in game two. Call Al Jordi for players. Tickets at local outlets or at the door. Reserve November 28 for a follow up community event.
Huntley remains in the Little Eight title race after a 13 to 12 win over Hampshire, pulling into a three way tie with Hampshire and Mooseheart at 5-2. The team then routed Elgin Academy 56 to 6 behind early scoring drives led by John Bastin and Paul Yurs, with Yurs adding a TD on a 42 yard interception return and a 31 yard TD pass to Goehl.
Veterans Day observances mark half a century since World War I ended. Arlington National Cemetery will host ceremonies led by the American Legion with support from major veterans groups. Huntley community plans are announced by Commander Robert Schultz of Post No. 678 as part of Legion 50th anniversary events.
