The Math Club and Typing II and Bookkeeping classes left May 12 for a field trip to the IBM Data Processing Center in Chicago. The tour included a cinema introduction, two hour demonstration of computers, lunch, and shopping time.
Fifty five members toured Chicago landmarks including the Field Museum Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium. They arrived around 10 a.m. and spent about an hour at each venue with a lunch break then rode a boat on the water front before a 2 p.m. departure and 3:35 p.m. Huntley arrival amid traffic delays.
The junior class schedules the prom for May 16 at the Holiday Inn in Elgin beginning at 9 30 p m Alumni of Huntley High School are invited to attend with Penny Ruth Jr as class secretary.
Eleven Huntley FFA members and advisor Kwain competed in state judging events. The Dairy team earned a blue ribbon with Ron Tinberg and Glen Barhart also blue, Alan Rath red. Dairy Holders saw Hoffman third, Drafail fourth. Livestock team earned red, with Ruth Nevel and Shott. Spiniolas earned red in Crop judging. Betterman white. No third member in Crop judging.
Wilpault Brill mayor proclaims May 23 and 24 1969 as Poppy Day for the Huntley Post American Legion and its Auxiliary. Citizens are urged to wear a Poppy and donate to support Disabled Veterans and their families through the Legion's charitable work.
Parents who want their children in summer school must pay a $5 fee at Huntley Elementary during May 9 to 13. Fees fund operation and state reimbursements. without funds, summer sessions will be cancelled.
The American Legion Post 573 schedules its next meeting on Thursday May 15. A large turnout is requested. Poppy and can distribution at the Legion Home begins Wednesday May 21 from 7 p.m. Workers should check in to pick up cans and poppies. those unable to attend may call Hedy Leonard at 669-5425.
Correction notes the 8th grade graduation will be held on Wednesday May 28.
Penny Ruth daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard Ruth was chosen Miss Huntley at a Huntley Lions Club meeting. Four Huntley High School girls competed Mary Barhart Linda Koch Sue Eggers and Penny Ruth. Penny will ride in the Memorial Day Parade and advance to the Miss McHenry County Contest at the McHenry County Junior Fair in August.
The Grafton Girls 4-H club hosts a bake sale on Saturday May 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Heinemann Hardware. Proceeds support club activities and community projects.
Finalists Ron Jirik and Gene Lindsey led the men with a 3 hour 50 minute finish on the 22 mile Fox River course from South Elgin dam to Aurora. Gregg Lindsey and Phil Lindsey topped the boys division in 4 hours 13 minutes. Homer and Mike Clark won the father and son division with a 4 hour 50 minute time.
