The Easter Seal fund raising effort runs March 2 through April 2 in McHenry County. About 27 000 envelopes with Easter Seals were mailed to residents to support the Illinois Association for the Crippled county chapter. The society funds 4 048 treatments and services last year.
The Huntley High School Senior Chorus presents an Inter-renominational Sacred Music Concert titled The Crucifixion by J. Stainer. Sunday March 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church Huntley using church facilities as the setting with mixed chorus and soloists directed by Mr. R. Perley.
Huntley Girl Scouts begin annual cookie sale from March 9 through March 18 selling cookies at 50 cents per box and nuts at 1.00 per box door to door to fund activities.
Grass fires were started at 11 p m last Friday night March 3 along railroad tracks near the Midnight Freeport Freight. Dean Milk Company workers spotted the flames and helped, Huntley firefighters battled the blazes with fire brooms in places due to water access issues. No property damage reported.
National 4-H Week took place March 4 to March 11 with window displays judged last Monday. Huntley hosts three 4-H clubs led by Borhart Berg Swan son Henniing and Delwin Borhart Kopsell. About 100 youths participate with projects ranging from cooking to sewing and handicrafts. Prizes will be awarded at the spring rally in April and the county fair in summer.
At three village board meetings Feb 7 Feb 9 and March 2 the bond issue election was discussed. The Feb 9 vote tally approved the bond by nine votes. Petitions for police magistrate were due Feb 27 with two candidates, Raymond Kelley and Charles Ernesti, filing for the office.
An adult farmer class this week will discuss herbicides with emphasis on weed control and sound, economical spraying. Agricultural Representative Jim R Davis will answer questions on modern spray practices. Dr Woelffer will reschedule to March 3 and Walter Kerchner moves to March 16 from March 30.
The Grafton Park Board met at 8 p m on February 23. They have added 35 loads of gravel to extend the swimming area 60 feet into the lake and 50 feet west from the current beach. A raft with a styrofoam base was ordered from J H Patterson Company Huntley to replace oil drum supports. The Lake Preservation Council pump is projected to operate for 170 days.
Since the Huntley Farmside last reported Election Lineup several petitions have been filed for office. The Village Board includes Citizens Party candidates Mayor Albert Boncvsky and trustees Irwin Wasserstrass Carl Justichard Enstrom Dave Rudy. Police Magistrate candidate Raymond J. eKiley is also listed.
Since Dr Frank left Huntley last fall a civic group led by Al Boncvsky Carl Runge and Bud Weber has sought a replacement. They met 50 to 60 residents with Dr Hernandes a Havana and Mexico trained physician seeking to establish practice in a Chicago area town.
A PTA group reviews a bill from the School Problem Commission proposing consolidation. If passed, within four years all high schools with under 250 students would close. A follow up discussion Monday will include a 30 minute Dr. Conant film on the benefits of larger high schools.
The Huntley Lions Club met February 28 at the Huntley American Legion Home. The American Legion Auxiliary served a chicken dinner. Guests included Mr. R. Schulz and Mr. R. Banks. Lion Thurow read and approved the previous minutes while Lions Zimmerman and Burmeister reported on the Lion supported Grade School Basketball Tournament.
Remodel of the old drug store at Woodstock and Main is underway. In April Marvin DePew of Batavia Ill will open a 24 hour coin operated laundromat with ten washers and three dryers. The building has housed a restaurant and drug store in the past and may expand if demand grows.
