An informal July meeting of the Grafton Township Board of Auditors at the Township Garage accepted North Avenue from Briarwood to Georgine as a township road. The road will be maintained by the township and resurfacing costs were paid by residents on that street. Attendees included Auditor Keck Clerk Enstrom and Supervisor Ruth. Eggers and Schmuck were absent on vacation.
The County Legion meets this Saturday July 28. The event includes installation of county officers with Harry Weltzien of Huntly to be installed as Sergeant-at-arms.
Lake Region YMCA invites boys and girls aged seven to thirteen from nine towns to join a July 27 trip to Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum in Chicago. Buses will pick up at multiple area locations between 8 15 and 9 00 a m and return around 4 15 to 5 00 p m.
Thirty six children were confirmed Sunday evening July 17 at 7 20 pm at St Marys Catholic Church in Huntley. Bishop Loray T Lane administered the sacrament with Deacon John Dording and Sub-deacon William Reginer. A post service dinner and a lawn meeting with the bishop followed the ceremony.
A teen dance is scheduled for Saturday July 23 from 7 30 to 10 30 p m at the Social Hall of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Hantley. A teenage band will perform.
A 16 year old boy from Lake in the Hills fell from the right hand fender of a moving car in Huntley on July 15. He struck his head and was hospitalized after emergency treatment at Woodstock Memorial Hospital. The car owner, employed at a Huntley company, faced a ticket for allowing a passenger on the fender.
The Huntley School Board met July 13 at 8 00 p m in the High School. They set sick leave pay rules new teachers must serve one year before eligibility and eligible days paid up to ten per year. Delinquent book rentals will be billed before fall. Bus fares to out of town games drop from 25 to 10 cents. A teacher will be hired in girls Physical Education and more posts are being sought in Mathematics Home Economics and Agriculture. Junior college plans for McHenry County were dropped for Huntley with potential future petition. One student faces a $200 tuition cost. Spare buses and new school equipment were purchased and Florence Michelsen is reappointed School Treasurer. A policy on funeral absences is to be reviewed. The next meeting is August 10. Fred Hoffman earned an A in the State Judging Contest and will compete Aug. 15 at the Illinois State Fair.
