McHenry County Fair Opens with New Dog Show
The McHenry County 4 H and Junior Fair runs August 3 4 5 6 at Woodstock Fairgrounds with 1200 4 H members expected to exhibit livestock food clothing knit ting room improvement poultry rabbits garden handicraft photography entomology and other projects A new 4 H Dog Care project and Dog Show is set for Saturday August 5 at 8 00 am in front of the grandstand Sup t intendent and trainer for the dog program is Mrs Richard Radtke Open Class entries are open to McHenry County youths 10 to 21 A Fair Book and entry blanks can be obtained at the Secretary s Office in the Fairgrounds The Fine Arts Department will display watercolors ink drawings charcoal and more The Agriculture Advisory Board picnic is July 23 at Edwin F Deicke Park Donahoe s Woods with ice cream milk and soda provided Attendees should bring place settings and a meat dish plus a dish to pass around.

Huntley School Board hires Bartlett custodian at nine monthly shifts
Richard Gillespie of Bartlett was hired as custodian at the July 12 meeting. He will work nine months a year from 11 00 p m to 7 00 a m and summer days 7 30 a m to 4 00 p m with two other custodians. Salary set at 5700 per year starting August 1. He has 12 years of Park Ridge experience and plans to move to Huntley. The district gains 24 hour custodial service. Book rental fees rise one dollar district wide and 90 commercial students face a 2 50 extra fee to cover new office machines, netting about 225. Student accident insurance continues with Horace Mann through agent Mr Blum of Crystal Lake. No coverage for breakage of glasses noted. More milk storage space needed and refrigeration unit costs to be studied. Fire at Robert Hight Residence on Phillips Drive
Huntley firemen were called to the Robert Hight residence on Phillips Drive at about 7 30 a m Saturday to extinguish a fire in a gas range. Believed sparked by an electric spark igniting a leak in flexible tubing connecting a pipe with the stove. Firemen put out the blaze in minutes and set up exhaust to clear smoke.

Walther League Ice Cream Social Supports Church Projects
Members of the Walther League at Trinity Lutheran Huntley hosted their annual Ice Cream Social last Sunday from 3 00 to 9 00 pm serving about 275 people. Proceeds fund the Christmas Nativity Scene outdoor music and other church projects. Leaguers will enjoy an outing at Riverview Park in Chicago.

Lutheran Church Picnic at Deicke Park
Trinity Lutheran Church Huntley held its annual Sunday School picnic on July 16 at Edwin F Deicke Park Donahoe Woods. The event opened with an open air worship service at 10 30 am followed by a pot luck dinner. Afternoon activities included children games teenager baseball and adult horse shoe pitching with congenial conversation.
