Bells on Independence Day Proclaimed by Illinois Governor

Governor Richard B. Ogilvie designates July 4 1969 as Bells on Independence Day statewide celebration. Citizens urged to join bell ringing ceremonies and flag displays at 1 pm CDT nationwide to commemorate the Declaration of Independence. Huntley officials and Legion Post 673 endorse the event and support state proclamation.

Dairy Booth Promotes Dairy Month At Huntley Bank

Huntley Harvesters 4 H Club staffed a dairy booth at the State Bank of Huntley on June 20 from 10:00 A M to 1:00 P M. The display featured dairy products and a cow centerpiece. Free milk cheese dips and crackers were offered and a drawing awarded items to Linda Eissler Curt McPherson Barbara Emery and Randy Grimes.

Boy Scout Troop 167 Sets Camp Lowden Trip

Scout Troop 167 departs Huntley Sunday July 13 at noon for Camp Lowden. Each camper must pay 23 dollars to Mr Walter Akerberg and submit complete medical forms. Return is scheduled for Saturday July 19 in Huntley.

Vo Ag Picnic Planned for July 27 at Dieke Park

Dieke Park hosts the annual Vo-Ag counsel picnic announced by instructor Kwain. The event is set for Sunday July 27 1969 around 12 00 noon and invites present and past counsel members and their families. Postcards will be sent with details.

Wind Storm Ravages Huntley On June 25 Damages Farm Service Plant

High winds and rain struck Huntley on Wednesday June 25 causing major damage to the Custom Farm Service liquid Fertilizer plant on Main Street where the second story wall was blown out. Workmen began removing the wall and finishing the storefront enclosure. A downed tree on Church Street knocked out a telephone line and Illinois Bell crews repaired the line and triggered the fire alarm twice. A lightning strike damaged the water pump meter and reduced pressure citywide, an issue since resolved.

Regular School Board Meeting June 25 1989

The regular meeting of School District 153 board members was held at the high school on June 25 1989 at 8 20 P M. Members present were Bein Bastian Jirik Mackeben with Thrun Grau and Stading absent. Visitors included Margaret Swanson Audrey Korwin and Principal Banks. The board approved a 25 monthly salary raise for Margaret Swanson for extra work and approved Mary Ann McCampbell’s college tuition at Elgin Community College under the Junior College Act. The August 1 1969 deadline to supplement tuition was set with extension based on available balance. Audrey Korwin’s salary was set at 5750 plus 250 for mileage for transportation services. The summer school report for 4977 70 was approved and the resignation of Richard Shoulin was accepted. The meeting continued to page two.

Where Was Our Water By Lane Western Pump Company

The Lane Western Pump Company installed a temporary motor after inspection showed lightning struck the previous unit during the storm on the 25th. A permanent installation will occur on Tuesday and should not interrupt water service. Percy Swanson thanks residents for patience during low water pressure.

Musicians To Meet July 14 At High School

Vocal music instructor William Leggee invites all high school students interested in joining a vocal group to discuss vocal activities. He will hold sessions at the high school office on Monday July 14 from 9:00 to 12:00 noon, 1:00 to 5:00 PM, and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Huntley Park Board Minutes June 25 1969

The Huntley Park Board met on Wednesday June 25 1969 at 8 00 p m with President Piske and commissioners Piske Deicke Tessendorf and Park Engineer Scheflow present. Absent were Parisek and Kiley. Minutes from May 28 and June 11 were approved. Treasurer reports showed a May 1 1969 balance of 3256 98 with a May 19 deposit of 1900 and bills totaling 137 92 leaving 5019 06 on June 1 1969. Deposits from McHenry and Kane Counties were 10200 and 250 on June 14 1969. Bills were approved for payment. Communications from the Illinois Association of Park Districts were read and continued to Page Three.
