Dr Fitch, Director of Professional Services at the Illinois Social Hygiene League, will speak on sex education at the Huntley PTA meeting Monday January 20 at 8 00 PM replacing the planned Wednesday event.
At the last regular meeting the Board of Education accepted a report recommending no new adult education classes start now. Survey results showed interest mainly in agriculture. 48 said yes to continuing education, with some praise for surrounding schools meeting needs. Mr. Dennis Kwain has taught several adult classes and may add arc and gas welding, electrical wiring, and engine tuning courses.
The Vocational Agriculture Department plans an adult program in welding electrical wiring and engine ignition system testing. Nine seven-evening course week of January 27 31 with a $3 materials cap and $10 welding fee. Enrollment is first come first served with eight-student maximum.
About 400 students from kindergarten through 12th grade received smallpox shots at Huntley School last Friday January 10 under new state rules. Parents signed permission slips, and school nurse Audrey Korwin prepared index cards for each student. Dr Alfred of Crystal Lake administered vaccines in the Grade School Vocal Music room with RN assistants Belle Ostrander and others. A few adults were vaccinated as well and students compared their experiences in the hall afterwards.
The Huntley Legion Post 673 holds its next meeting on Thursday January 16. Officers urge stronger attendance as a busy year ahead unfolds and cooperation is needed for the coming program. The McHenry County Council American Legion meets January 23 at Union Legion Post.
Wayne Miller was elected President at the State Bank of Huntley during the January directors meeting. Miller joined the bank in 1960 as Executive Vice President after beginning his career at Princeville State Bank in 1950 and earning degrees from Western Illinois University and Stonier Graduate School of Banking. R. L. Bankes was named Executive Vice President and Cashier, with a long Banking and finance background including roles at Acme Steel and Howell Company.
School milk at Huntley rises by one cent effective January 20 raising student price from two to three cents. The change follows higher school purchase costs with government reimbursements previously offsetting price. About 1200 half pints sold monthly.
The Board of Education approves a policy to determine student eligibility for reduced price meals under the national school lunch program. The policy meets program requirements and the school will provide forms to parents upon request.
Grafton Town Clerk Richard Enstrom announced nomin ating petitions for the township election on April 1 1969. Offices include Supervisor Clerk Assessor and three Auditors. Filing ran from December 23 1968 to January 27 1969 with five petitions issued all by Leona Nelson of Crystal Lake. Village petitions may be filed January 16 to February 10 for the April 15 village election. Incumbents up for re election are President Wilpault Brill Clerk Richard Enstrom Trustees Donald Enstrom James O Connor and Leon Othaber.
Ad Hoc Committee on the fermbility of public use of the high school library reviews historical context after taxation failed for a mobile library. The School Board considered making library facilities available to the general public once the new high school building and its library facilities became available. A committee chaired by Dr Grau explored the issue last fall.
Mr. William Buck announces services for paying bills and mailing remittances to Buck Pharmacy P O Box 608 Huntley Illinois. Pharmacy services including prescription dropoffs and pickups at Huntley Post Office with 11 00 A M pickup and 4 30 P M same day drop, and Algonquin Pharmacy refills via 708 4548. Drug store closed for four weeks with no temporary reopening plan.
The Huntley consolidated School Board, with President pro tem Jirik, heard a park board delegation seeking land bordering the school. The board cannot cede a square parcel but may offer a corner or triangle for the park road. The inter-mural basketball program reports 45 to 50 participants, started in November and set for review after January 1, with strong parental support.
The newly activated Sons of the American Legion Huntley Post 73 will install officers on Saturday January 18 at 8 00 PM at the Huntley Legion Home. Installing officer will be James Green chairman McHenry County Council. Open to the public with a light lunch after.
A special meeting will be held on Wednesday January 22 at 7 30 P M at the Legion Home to decide the design and type of a Past Presidents Plaque to be ordered.
