The Board of Education of Dist. No. 158 will meet at 7 45 p m for its monthly session April 17. Items include retiring board adjournment a new board seating and election canvass followed by organization of the incoming board and selection of officers and meeting dates.
Cindy McCollum, a 16 year old from Huntley Unit No 673, will attend Illini Girls State at MacMurray College Jacksonville Illinois from June 13 to 20 1972. She is the delegate of American Legion Auxiliary and works part time as a nurse s aide at Woodstock Memorial Hospital. The five member family includes Mr and Mrs Donald McCollum sister Connie 14 Lori 11 and Cindy 16. Cindy has participated in bags chorus Latin Club cheerleading girls volleyball Health Club and GAA during high school and plans training in health fields possibly nursing. She has church involvement with Walther League Senior Choir Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. The project is described as A Project in Good Citizenship.
The Huntley Medical Center Board says an open house will be held Sunday April 23 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Medical Center on Algonquin Road to meet new doctor Dr Guevera who starts April 17 and to meet Dr James O Fauchlin who has practiced dentistry at the center. Dr Guevera will join Woodstock Memorial Hospital St Joseph Hospital Elgin and Sherman Hospital staff. Also Sunday April 23 from 3 to 8 pm an open house at Pincrest Country Club on Algonquin Blacktop northeast of town invites all to attend. Bob Zanzig named head professional. course opens Monday May 1.
The annual township meeting at the township garage opened at 8 p.m. with Howard Ruth presiding. Vernon Brunschon was elected moderator and C. R. Stroupe acting clerk. Reports on town funds and road and bridge funds were approved. The board authorized posting weight limits of 12 000 pounds per axle on township roads and possible road closures up to 90 days per year. The 1973 meeting date was set for the second Tuesday in April.
Palm Sunday services at the First Congregational Church featured confirmands wearing white robes and red carnations. The carnations were provided by the Ladies Aid, marking the end of a two year study program covering theology, exegesis, church history, missions, and polity centered on human conduct in modern life.
The Huntley Village Board met April 6 in the village hall with President Brill and several trustees present. They reviewed state rules for a polishing pond to treat discharge, estimated at 100000 dollars with 50 percent federal and 25 percent state reimbursements. The panel also debated curb and gutter work, and rejected a 5200 dollar bid to dismantle the old water tower while evaluating an 11040 dollar bid to remove the wooden tank.
Weekly school lunch plan lists daily items from Monday to Friday. Menu includes pizza or burgers, chili, turkey and gravy, bar B que on bun, and tuna dishes with sides and milk each day.
School calendar lists events from April 13 to 29 including grade school concert, band and chorus concerts, preschool testing at the Cong Church, PTA meeting, Blackhawk concert, baseball games at Hebron Genoa Marengo Central Hiawatha and Richmond, career day for 10th and 11th grades, senior announcements and rings, VICA banquet, and a note about failure notices to parents.
Sixteen Monmouth College athletes with high athletic marks and strong academics are named for the Outstanding College Athletes of America edition for 1972. Nominated by head coaches, the group emphasizes athletic success alongside community service and academics. Dale Brooks leads the Monmouth list in the feature continuation.
The Huntley Medical Center hosts its annual Pancake breakfast this Sunday April 16 at the Huntley Fire Station from 8 am to 1 pm. Dr Guer begins practice April 17 at the center, which opened in 1958 funded by local residents and dedicated by Governor Stratton.
Ronald Jirik and Daniel Ziller were elected to the District 158 Board of Education for a three year term. Jirik, incumbent, received 63 votes. Ziller 114 votes. write-in Robert Kunde received 47 votes. Election held last Saturday April 8.
