Picture and obituary notice say Mike Young of Huntley was killed in Viet Nam last week. The body will lie in Marengo Tuesday at the Dale Osborne Funeral Home. For more information call 568-8131.
The Board of Education schedules its Regular Board Meeting on April 12. After canvassing the April 10 election, the new members will be seated and the board will address new business including anticipations warrants new high school courses the school calendar and a contract services request to the Special Education District of Mc Henry County. Old business covers disposal of a dishwasher Jr High Library plans and staff needs for 1971 72.
The Lions Club Athletic Dinner on April 27 presents Art Keller, Carthage College’s famed coach. Keller led unbeaten football teams in 1962 and 1969 and ranked 12th among NCAA College Divisions coaches in 1969. He also coached a 1970 season with one loss to Western Illinois.
April includes Good Friday No School on April 9, Easter Monday No School on April 12, and a School Board Election on April 10. April 16 brings a Grade School Concert, April 19 is an Inservice Day, and multiple activities occur April 20 with the P T A and baseball games against Hiawatha There. The calendar also lists April 20 Baseball vs Hiawatha There, April 22 vs Richmond There, April 27 Baseball vs Central Hero, plus an Athletic Banquet on April 27 and a VICA Banquet on April 29.
The April Village Board meeting in Huntley McHenry County began at eight due to no quorum. Mr Staab joined later as discussion covered a new ordinance amending regulations for construction and safety of buildings and structures and a forthcoming zoning hearing.
Huntley FFA entered meat and milk judging teams at the University of Illinois Champaign event. Meat team Steven VanAcker Ted Tinberg Clayton Ebert earned a C White Ribbon and VanAkey received a B red ribbon. Milk team Arthur McPheron Jim Henning Dean Landers earned B red ribbons with McPheron also winning a red individual award. 142 meat judges and 70 milk judges participated.
The State District I Class C event in Forreston Illinois yielded six Division I ratings and nine more in Division I along with one Division III rating. Winners include Pam Jirik Barb Schults Diane Ungs in Girls Vocal Trio and multiple solos and ensembles across piano saxophone trombone and brass categories.
The April 18 meeting at 8 p.m. in the township garage will feature Kenneth Fish of the Soil and Water Conservation District outlining a 197 500 plan to rejuvenate the Kishwaukee River from Woodstock to the Union area. Residents along the river near Franklinville road and Route 176 are urged to attend as funding covers river cleaning, silt removal, bank work, waste disposal grants for landowners, and erosion control.
