Kenneth Graham wins $25 000 in Iowa Lottery

Kenneth R Graham of Humeston was among two top winners in the Iowa Lottery show on Friday. He and H P Marshall of Betendorf each won 25 000 while 10 finalists earned 84 000 total. The 3 759 124 jackpot remained unclaimed and next week rises to 4 001 000. Graham called the event fun and noted the win exceeded his expectations.

Kline Re-Elected Mayor In Humeston Election

Humeston voters re-elected incumbent officials with Mayor Kenneth Kline winning re election by write in as 55 of 67 ballots. Council posts went to Carlos Paugh 66 votes Hoyt Snyder 57 votes. Park Commission members Howard Gibbs 65 votes with Rick Boor Daryl Hanson, plus Howard Baker and Eugene Weaver.

Contel awards Humeston building contract to Wiley and Sons

Continental Telephone Company of Iowa awards a contract to Jean C. Wiley and Sons to build a central office switching system for Humeston. Construction starts late November with project completion expected by year end and equipment in service in fall 1986. Further installation details will follow as the project nears completion.

Empty Stockings Program Seeks Help For Christmas

The Empty Stocking Program coordinated by United Trinity Parish Humeston and local churches seeks donations to provide a bright Christmas for needy families. Veterans Day observance moved due to bad weather

Wayne County Public Health Nurses will hold a Blood Pressure Screening Clinic on November 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Corydon’s congregate meal site. The note mentions veterans and those who served in the armed forces and indicates an observance was affected by inclement weather.

Rev Lucille Ringle Dies in Chariton Crash

Highway accident near Chariton claims two lives. Rev. Lucille Ringle, 57, dies. her daughter Susan Ringle of Des Moines is hospitalized with facial injuries. Driver Rev. Charles Terrill, 69, of Lacona, and his wife Florence, 70, also perished. Ringle's car reportedly swerved after spotting a deer. Funeral set for Nov. 14 at United Methodist-Christian Church in Humeston. Donations may be left at Citizens State Bank in Humeston.

Allerton man seeks board seat in 1986 race

Bob Wampler of Allerton enters the 1986 election as a Republican candidate for the incumbent board seat. He has appeared at public functions during a re election push. The other seat up for election is held by Ronald Green. Wampler farms near Allerton and runs Bob and Terressa's Country Store. He also serves on the Wayne County Hospital Board of Trustees.

Special election set to fill senate seat

Gov. Terry Branstad called a special election for December 17 to fill the State Senate vacancy from the death of Sen. John Neighbour representing District in rural Chariton. The winner serves only until the next general election. District Democrats meet Nov. 21 and Republicans caucus Nov. 21 in Chariton. T.C. Poston and Dean Cox, both of Corydon, seek the seat.

Mormon Trail Board Boosts Pay and backs grid coach

Mormon Trail administrators approved raises for Superintendent C J Helin Wyatt Hoover and Sal Vega with annual totals of 34700 26200 and 23800 plus travel and housing allowances. The board also voiced support for football coach Bill Shuey despite a winless season and discussed prom location citing costs and student behavior. A Mormon Trail Honors Club was announced for students maintaining a 325 GPA who have earned an academic letter or pin.
