Obituary of John Throckmorton Leader in Derby Iowa Faithful Citizen
John Throckmorton born November 9 1826 near Waynesburgh Pennsylvania died May 2 1907 near Derby Iowa after a long life of farming and merchandising. He served in the 34th Iowa Volunteers, built the first log schoolhouse, and led a Christian, courteous life. He leaves seven sons and two daughters and a wife who died in 1906. Funeral services were held at the local church.

The corner stone of Decatur county's new courthouse will be laid on Thursday May 23 with the Grand Lodge of Iowa A F and A M and local Masons in charge. Grand Master W F Cleveland of Harlan and N R Parvin of Cedar Rapids will attend along with other grand lodge officials. Masons from nearby counties are invited to attend as a fine program is planned. Edith Amos of Knoxville grand district deputy O E S will inspect the Leon Chapter on the evening of the 22nd and stay for part of the day’s ceremonies.

In spring the common buds fall into two classes fruit buds and leaf buds. Leaf buds include a reserve sub-variety that can sprout summer leaves if original leaf buds are damaged. Burlington to Improve Des Moines Osceola Branch
Burlington railway plans a direct line from St Marys to New Virginia to shorten the Des Moines Osceola route and enable a Des Moines Kansas City service.
