Senate debate links panic to financiers and Roosevelt
In the Senate, Wisconsin's La Follette pressed that the panic was sparked by financiers tied to New York insurers and railroad interests. He accused the president and treasury of facing a blaze, not praising the pirates who helped kindle it, while Gore argued against portraying Rockefeller and Morgan as country saviors. The session featured long remarks, with many Democrats present and Republicans notably quiet.
