Cubs Hold Banquet and Derby Highlight Blue and Gold Event

The Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquet occurred at Humeston Community Center on Thursday Feb 27 with Vic Neal of Garden Grove as a special guest after receiving the Silver Beaver. Derby cars built by Jeff Gwinn Curt Paugh and Steve Snow won 1st 2nd 3rd and advance to the district at Southridge Mall March 22. Snow’s car named most unique Carlton’s car most like a race car and Paugh’s car prettiest. Judges Floyd Jamison Raedean and Banettah Street. Cubs enrolled include Bobcats Steve Sinclair Curt Paugh Mark Rickert Steve Snow Bear Cubs Jeff Gwinn Andy Paugh Earl Alford David Clark Zach Carlton. Tiger.

Murray seeks Republican nomination for Wayne County sheriff

Roger Murray a Corydon native and 30 year deputy seeks the Republican nomination for Wayne County Sheriff to fill the post of retiring Sheriff Jerry Street. He plans to devote 100 percent of his time and will not renew his transportation director contract with Wayne Community School district. He also partners in M and M Wrecking Service and has managed Corydon Municipal Pool. Murray is a 1974 Wayne High graduate and State Police Academy alum.

The Mormon Trail board of education met Monday evening to interview candidates for the superintendent position. No decision was reached and more interviews are planned for Thursday evening.

New Humeston Golf Club officers named for 1986 season

Humeston Golf Club elected Harold Williams as president Floyd Jamison as secretary and Glenn Williamson as treasurer at a Wayne Street meeting. Other board members include Howard Garton Milo McCullough Frosty Richard and Wayne Street. League play begins April 1 with teams to be chosen later. Golden Autumn to transfer Lamont Manor Bedford Manor and Corydon Care Center ownership to Beverly Enterprises of Pasadena CA on April 1 with operations continuing and staff maintained. Connie White of Garden Grove manages Corydon Care Center.

Wayne County rural garbage meeting set for Thursday

Wayne County Board of Supervisors will host a Thursday 7 p.m. meeting in Corydon to discuss the potential loss of federal revenue sharing funds covering about 38 000 of the 50 000 annual disposal cost. Abuses at dump sites by non or under served residents and Missouri residents will be addressed along with invited rural and unincorporated community residents.

First test of Iowa campaign disclosure law affects Mormon Trail bond

Wayne County Auditor Sue Ruble explains the new campaign finance disclosure rules as the Mormon Trail bond issue approaches. The law triggers committee status at two or more contributors over 250 dollars and requires five day pre election reports plus monthly post election filings. Late filings incur automatic fines and all activity including ads and yard signs must be itemized by contributors and expenditures.

Bond information meetings planned for Central Decatur school

A series of informational meetings planned Thursday by representatives of Dana Larson Ruble and their architectural firm will answer questions about the Central Decatur school project. Venues include Garden Grove Lions Hall 11:30 to 12:30, LeRoy Church 1 to 2, Derby Community Center 2:30 to 3:30, Humeston Community Center 4 to 5, with a 7 p.m. school tour. Bus pickups: Derby 6, Humeston 6:15, LeRoy 6:15, Garden Grove 6:45.

Humeston Council OKs water and sewer rate hike

Humeston city council voted to raise water and sewer rates by 25 percent starting April 1. The minimum bill climbs from 2.90 to 3.62 dollars, with water charges set at 2.35 for 2,000 gallons and increases after that. Sewer charges equal half the water rate, total including a 0.09 sales tax reaches 3.62 dollars. The council tabled a letter from All-Tech attorney. city engineer Bob Buss and a firm rep will meet later.

LeRoy Church to Host World Day of Prayer Service

The United Presbyterian Women at LeRoy Church will host World Day of Prayer on Friday. This year's service titled Choose Life was written by Australian Christian women and is sponsored by Church Women United, a panChristian group uniting Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic women in prayer and peace actions. It marks the 99th consecutive year of the observance.
