Hundreds of dollars were raised for a grand event with W F Leech as marshal. Hiram K Evans and Thomas H Maxwell will speak as district judges. The program features an auto parade at ten, a band, a drill by forty eight girls, races and a ball game.
H. H. Moore & Co. launches a big pre inventory sale starting Saturday and running eight days through Monday July 6. Elvery department features merchandise across all sections priced for quick riddance as part of a broad storewide savings event.
The third annual meeting of the Wayne County Masonic-Eastern Star association is under way in Corydon with many Humeston residents attending. Dr. George McCulloch will respond to the welcome by C. W. Steele. Dr. R. C. Kestler and Charles Humeston perform trombone and cornet duets.
Mr and Mrs A C Jarvis and their young daughter Helen arrived home Friday following a three month absence. Mr Jarvis had been in a sanitarium at Battle Creek Michigan while Mrs Jarvis and Helen were visiting at Ames.
Holiness camp meeting June invites all to the farm of T N Greenlee eight and a half miles southwest of Corydon and seven and a half miles northwest of Allerton. The event runs starting July 3 for ten days or more with services all day July 4. Rev William McFarland of Creston Iowa preaches and Ruth Buell of University Park Iowa leads singing. The gathering aims at conversion sanctification and saintly edification and ministers are invited. I N Greener president Wayne County Holiness Association.
The June contest between Epworth League factions ends next Sunday evening. Delegates to the district convention at Russell reported well at the League service. The Benevolence committee aims to finish the year’s benevolences with pledged missions and other gifts. Pledges may be given via Sunday offerings marked Benevolences and should be paid before August’s close.
A man once lived in a country town and amassed wealth from local residents. He sent riches to the city and criticized all in the town. He hated others and himself, died, and was promptly forgotten. His name remains unknown.
After September 3 1914 Iowa grocers must sell everything by weight. Net weight must appear on all wrappers and bottles or items may be confiscated. Produce normally sold by the bushel except onions and berries must be weighed. Berry boxes must use full quart or pint measures.

Crews install an eighteen inch deep and seven inch wide cement curb on the park's east edge this week. Fred Woodruff oversees the work as curbs on the west and north sides are already complete in this splendid improvement.
Humeston second team defeated Leroy on Leroy grounds Saturday by 32 to 8. The game outcome shows Humeston dominance in the matchup.
The Allerton chautauqua runs August 12 to 18. W L Livingston Republican candidate for county attorney will speak at Clio on July Fourth. A Sinclair of Corydon once a state auditor candidate is improving from tuberculosis at Woodman Colorado sanitarium. Mrs R A Mace of a farm southwest Allerton died from a coal oil burn while starting a fire. she was 40, survived by husband and six children, funeral held Friday.
Local construction activity highlights new bungalow by H. J. Finch with five rooms and modern amenities. J. L. Taylor starts a 24 by 10 foot residence, seven rooms, basement, one and a half stories. Sides of Hawkeycumber Co and Dr McCulloch block gain a fresh paint job.
Editorial from Marshalltown Times-Republican urges Hlumeston to host a robust third annual Chautauqua August 2 to 6. It calls for careful selection of top talent from the Midland Chautauqua Circuit, shorter duration if needed, and a focus on popular, worthwhile programs to make the event a permanent town institution.
Centerville pupils of Miss Elizabeth Taylor presented a four o’clock piano recital at the First Presbyterian Church. An appreciative audience enjoyed about thirty numbers, showcasing home talent with Lorena Snider of Weldon among the performers.
Miss Opal Bott, the bride to be, was honored with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mr and Mrs C C Watchins on Friday evening. Fifty guests attended and presented pretty and useful gifts.
The federal reserve act will place twelve federal reserve banks into circulation with advances from the federal reserve board in the form of new federal reserve notes. Each note features portraits such as Lincoln Cleveland Jackson Grant and Franklin and displays thematic back designs highlighting farming commerce and the arts.
Weekly choir practice Wednesday evening at 8. Ladies Art Society meets with Mrs. Gardner for important business and full attendance is urged. Next Sunday marks the church's third anniversary with a special day program. Rev. W. C. Cole of Osceola preaches morning and evening. A patriotic program led by Ernest Culbertson is planned at 7:00, followed by a sermon at 8:00.
The thirteenth annual Rebekah lodges convention met in Corydon with a strong program and large attendance. Degree work was excellently demonstrated by the local team. The 1915 convention will be hosted by Confidence. Attendees from Humeston included numerous members led by W. F. Leech and O F E Carlton, with many wives and daughters also listed.
Grace Thompson daughter of Mr and Mrs W C Thompson of Bonaparte married Wesley McNamar Burlington agent at Leroy in a quiet ceremony at the Presbyterian Range in Bonaparte officiated by Rev L T Hughes. After a short visit they will reside in Leroy, Iowa.
Plans are under way for union services during the summer with all four churches participating. A full announcement will appear in the New Era next week.
Merchants of Humeston face a decision on holding an eighth annual Fall Festival after seven successful events. Registries in local stores show strong farmer support. a few holdouts remain undecided. If approved, expect three days of entertainment and merchant-led planning to begin promptly.
C L Hart the clothier launches a thirteen day stock reducing sale opening Saturday with a prize piano valued at 350 dollars. On July 4 the instrument will go to the party lodge school district or church with the most votes when the sale ends. Eleven contestants are named including Eva Culbertson Katherine Heskett Opal Lowe Ada Crawford and Thelma Ulm.
The Haumeston Concert Band draws strong crowds each summer evening with lively programing under director Charles Humeston. New instruments have been purchased and the ensemble offers first class gear for the grand Fourth of July celebration in Humeston.
A Haigler Nebraska pastor Rev Ralph Gardner commends the New Era for improved news and ads over the past year. He expresses regret at Mr Sanford's death and returns from a trip to Denver and Colorado Springs, urging continued Hameston booster efforts.
