Derby charity event raises funds for famine relief
A community entertainment at the Hall last Saturday drew a big crowd with out of town participants Rev and Mrs McClelland of Chariton. Proceeds for the European Relief Fund totaled over 9400 and donations continue to pour in as the $500 goal is expected to be reached.
Humeston to Centerville telegrapher takes better post
Harry E Jennings, former Humeston afternoon telegraph operator, left for Centerville to join the dispatcher’s office at 8:50 after travelling on the eastbound train. The move comes with a higher salary and a long list of Humeston connections—several former Humeston men now serving on the Centerville division telegraph and many local families visiting or relocating.

The Soul Survey Reports from the U S Department of Agriculture are available at the Yarm Bureau office. The report includes an accurate map of Wayne County showing soil types rivers creeks coal mines cemeteries churches schools and dwelling houses. Rabbits are reportedly being captured in groups of thirty to fifty by three or four gunners and some eight to ten by hand in tall plowed sod. Last Friday evening the Country Club ladies hosted a social for families at Mrs S M Benakler’s home. Despite poor roads about thirty attended. The Iowa State Fair posted a record profit of 90219.09 with plans for new buildings and improvements. Statewide figures include 9 million hogs, 107 million dozen eggs, 26 478100 head of poultry, 169551 autos and 8704 trucks, 1270888 horses, 74106 mules, 26746 silos, 208120 farms averaging 158 acres, 0400484 bushels apples, 17683 tractors, and 926160 sheep yielding 4348424 pounds wool for 1919 and 1920 context.

Last Thursday evening Mrs Faye Thomas hosted Lavingston s twelfth birthday for the Intermediate Boys class at her home with games ice cream and cake.
