A nationwide push for reduced freight rates gathers momentum as farmers and others sign a petition. The document, with over a hundred signatures, urges Congress to act and is available at A. Humes ton & Sons.
Residents of Maple Grove plan a general cleanup of their grounds at the hall next Friday February 25 followed by dinner and a clay pigeon shoot. A Friday night spelling match will follow and the public is invited to both events.
Osceola Tribune changes hands last week as C M Gates sells the plant and business to Dudley A Reid of Gilman City Missouri. Reid takes immediate possession while Gates cites illness as the reason for sale.
Gregory in Prairie Farmer notes a neighbor repairs his plow to begin spring work. The piece laments cold nights and broken gear delaying planting while the speaker vows to wait for repairs and avoid shop trips.
The funeral service for J W Honnold was held yesterday at Leon with Mrs W C Eaton a niece attending from here. Honnold was an early local settler who lived on the farm now occupied by E S Williams northeast of town. Paralysis was the immediate cause of death.
A Derby wedding unites Lola Edwards and Ward C Edwards with Rev Harwood presiding. Lola keeps her surname. attendents include Dorothy Long and Ralph Edwards. Lola, a Derby High School graduate, worked at Winslow Bros. The groom, a Missouri Valley farmer, served in World War I and was stationed at Camp McArthur. They depart for their new home after a brief reception.
A Valentine party hosted at the country home of Mr and Mrs Milton Armstrong featured games and a program. The warmly decorated house offered red and white themes and abundant refreshments including cake rust salad heart sandwiches coffee and pickles served twice. About fifty Country Club members attended with a guest.
Neighbors gathered Thursday evening February 17 at Ed Wishmeyer’s home for a surprise party. Fifty six attendees shared baskets and a pleasant evening of games and conversation with Wishmeyer. Attendees included the families of Elmer Canfield and several others and Wishmeyer’s parents and brother were present.
The Church Orchestra offers half hour concerts every Sunday morning starting at 9 20 A M. They invite all who are not attending elsewhere to attend.

Edwin L Hooper writes from New Zealand about travel from San Francisco and Tahiti, vines, gooseberries yielding seven gallons from a tree, local weather, crops, wild pigs and deer, birds pestering fruit, rivers with trout and eels, six meals daily, and longing for family as he may not work due to a leg injury.
The community is invited to hear the Gypsy Rover operetta at the opera house on Wednesday night for a rare performance with elaborate costumes. Miss Tucker's class held a party last Friday with games and ham candy treats.
Civic Club notes remind members that Friday night is the regular meeting. Reports mention Mrs Morgen of Cambria seeing a robin on February 27 and her father 3. D. Morgen saw a frog during a warm spell. Mrs Alves Like DeVies of Des Moines helps care for her mother Mrs O Winland. Mrs Harry Eyerman and two daughters of Centerville visit Mrs Fon AcDonald on Monday.
