In 1918 plan a diverse garden to self supply the community. Emphasize potatoes cabbage cauliflower celery beans and tomatoes with home grown crops. Encourage hotbeds cold frames seed variety planting and school age participation to aid year round production.
H M Blair of Brunswick Nebraska visited relatives in Humeston for several days last week. He was called to Chariton by the death of a relative. Mrs Blair remains in the hospital with a broken shoulder from a fall.
J L Taylor sold his residence Friday to W R Richard for 3600 dollars with possession to be given March 1. Taylor previously rented rooms at the property.
An assembly is called for O. E. 5 on Tuesday evening February 26 with District Instructor Laura L. Hardin present for a school of instruction. Also set is Practice I for officers Friday February 22 at 7:09 sharp.

Corydon Democrat reports Captain W. M. Littell a Civil War veteran and pioneer citizen suffered a severe nosebleed at his home Monday evening. Medical aid failed to stop the bleeding by Wednesday as he remains in frail health and well known for his steadfast character.
Fire crews and a deputy at 12 50 Friday afternoon responded to a small blaze at Hotel Lee. The fire started from a range in the kitchen and burned into the floor. Damage was slight.
