Firearms Safety Training Offered by County Sheriff
The ree County Sheriff's Department will host a four hour Firearms Safety Training Program. The class takes place February 12 on the main floor of the Corydon American Legion Hall. Those not yet signed up should contact the sheriff's office or attend the Legion Hall that evening.

Six Wayne County students earned places on Iowa State University's Fall Semester Deans List for maintaining at least 3.50 GPA with 12 or more graded credit hours. Honorees include Kelly A. Helen Lowe Scholarship Applications Available
Applications are now available from the Mormon Trail guidance counselor for the Helen Lowe Memorial Scholarship. Betty Paugh, scholarship chairman for Iota Pi of Beta Sigma Phi, says the award has been given annually to a Mormon Trail graduating senior for several years. This year the amount is $350 and the recipient is chosen by an impartial committee based on scholarship, citizenship, need, responsibility, and school involvement. The scholarship may be used for tuition and fees at any accredited college, university, area college, or vocational training facility.

Head Start students view various furs in a visit
Head Start children in Humeston visited Langloss Furs on February 3 to study Eskimo life. Shane Langloss showed pelts of beaver coyote mink fox and other furs and explained scraping and stretching tools. The group also saw ducks geese and turkey and toured the facility. The children had built a dog sled and igloos for the project, said teacher Kathy Teel.

Helin resigns as Mormon Trail Superintendent and salary hike approved
Mormon Trail School Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent C J Helin effective once a successor is found on June 30 1986. The board granted him one year salary 33000 paid as 11000 yearly over three years. It also approved a 3 percent across the board raise for non certified staff and restructured secretaries health coverage to higher salary rather than full family benefits.

Wayne County Hospital invites public cholesterol testing as a preventive measure in a February Heart Month program. The lipid profile costs 10 dollars and runs 7 to 11 a.m. February 11 to 14 in the hospital laboratory with no appointment needed. Participants should fast 12 hours prior. results go to participant and family physician, with a follow up advised. The promotion partners with KCCI TV8 and the American Heart Association Iowa Affiliate, and notes a 2 percent risk reduction per 1 percent cholesterol drop. Spring nutrition classes will cover Low-Cholesterol Cooking.
