The first sale of the season drew bitter cold weather and heavy attendance yet much property sold. Not all items listed brought in due to the weather but everyone who had items up for sale benefited. The next sale is set for February 23 with more property expected. Col J J Hasbrouck, a leading auctioneer, underscored best efforts to run the sales satisfactorily.
The Wayne County Poultry Association will hold its annual exhibit on December 3 4 6 7 and has leased the St House for those dates A judge will be W H Russell of Ottumwa who has previously delivered strong satisfaction Those wishing to join should enroll promptly The corn content will be another feature of this exhibit.
R E Guinn of Corydon and his brother Thomas of Gaytown ship were summoned to Columbus Junction by a message saying their mother died in Indiana. They arrived to learn a wrong message had caused the alarm, that their brother in law died in Hebron Indiana, and they returned home Thursday.
Last Wednesday about twenty neighbors of W. J. McCandless of Jefferson township gathered and cut around forty loads of wood for him. McCandless had been ill for some time and died at his home that Wednesday night.
Richman township urges residents to follow code section 1570 on hedges along Babe road. Owners of orange willow and other hedges must trim within five feet of the ground at least once every two years when ordered by trustees and remove or burn trimmings from the road. Mrs M H Richman born February 20 1823 Summers county West Virginia married to Marshall H Richman December 9 ish. They moved to Iowa then Wayne county near Humeston and had fourteen children five died. Survived by James H Samuel M John M A Ebner Cyntha J wife of G M Barry Thomas Enos Sarah E wife of W A Kyner and Mary A Finley. Funeral held February 2 at G M Barry home. Interment Gwinn cemetery northeast of Humeston. The family thanks friends for support.
Mrs Roy Clark died at her Colton California home after a several week illness. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs R R Richards of Humeston and had lived locally most her life. The funeral was held at the M E church and interment followed in Humeston cemetery. Obituary next week.
J C Davis a respected Cambria neighbor and teacher died Tuesday after a long illness. Born March 20 1886 in Wayne County Iowa he died January 29 1907 aged forty. He leaves a mother four brothers one sister and many relatives. The Masonic order conducted the funeral with Rev G T Roberts of Redding delivering the sermon. Interment followed in Cambria cemetery.
Don Dilley reported back from Sioux City last Saturday and revealed he had not wed, still eligible and part of the young bachelors' fraternity. The town laments the false marriage news and awaits further word from the beloved bachelor.
Humeston business houses report solid January trade and anticipate a stronger February season. Advertised discounts cover many lines of goods as merchants urge customers to trade locally for profitable returns.

Mrs A Barnett of Cambria slipped from a hay fork while handling chickens on Tuesday of host week and cut her left knee severely. Dr Stith attended and sewed the wound. Officials hope for no permanent injury.
Representative Oth reintroduces a firecracker bill modeled after last session. Backed by manufacturers and jobbers, it would take effect January 1, 1908. It bans sale or keeping for sale of any toy pistol or revolver with dynamite may limit firecrackers to five inches in length and three inches in diameter. A penalty of up to thirty days in jail or a fine of $100 is proposed.
Resolutions of Respect from Radient Chapter No 30 Eastern Star Hamieston mourn the death of brother J C Davis. The chapter extends sympathy to his family and drapes crepe and jewels in mourning for thirty days. A copy of the resolution is to be sent to the bereaved family and spread on the minutes.
